Join us as we explore two of North America’s most beautiful alpine destinations – Yosemite National Park and South Lake Tahoe. Starting from Reno, NV we will spend the first 3 days exploring Yosemite National Park, which includes hiking, sightseeing and wildlife spotting. We will explore the famous Yosemite Valley and enjoy towering waterfalls, granite monoliths, and Giant Sequoia trees. On days 4 and 5 we explore the pristine Lake Tahoe area. This trip is the perfect blend of active hiking mixed with great opportunities to relax in some of the most majestic mountain scenery America has to offer. Depart from Downtown Reno, NV after a quick meet and greet with your group. Enjoy unique scenery as we drive south along the California/Nevada border towards the entrance of Yosemite National Park. Today we will introduce you to one of North America’s most incredible places where we’ll view alpine lakes and granite monoliths. After lunch take a moderate, introductory hike to view towering granite domes or Giant Sequoias (World’s most massive trees, also the second tallest trees on the planet). After some time in Yosemite, we will head to our lodge for the evening and have dinner.

Hiking: 3-4 Miles +/- 700 ft.

This morning we will rise to a hot breakfast before spending a full day in Yosemite. We enter into the park early to attempt a spectacular hike up to Vernal and Nevada Falls for fantastic views of the Yosemite Valley. This hike has a little bit of everything as we work our way along the Mist Trail and connect with a short portion of the John Muir Trail. After the hike, we will return to the valley for more adventure or relaxation on the Merced River.

Hiking: 3-7 miles (Hiking up to Nevada Falls is 7 miles round-trip) +/- 1,500 ft.

We have another full day available to maximize our adventure in Yosemite National Park. We will attempt to hike at higher elevations for stunning views of the Yosemite Valley or continue our adventures down in the valley depending on seasonality. We’ll be sure to enjoy incredible views of El Capitan and Half Dome in addition to standing beneath one of North America’s Tallest Waterfalls – Yosemite Falls towering at 2,450 feet tall.

This morning, we’ll enjoy a hot breakfast then move onwards to Lake Tahoe. Arriving in late afternoon, we plan to do something active once we arrive. Later this evening we’ll take a sunset cruise on Lake Tahoe.

Hiking: 3-5 miles +/- 1200 feet elevation gain
Accommodation: Hotel Beckett or similar
Last day of the trip! The benefit of ending the trip in Reno is the fact that we get a full day to truly capitalize on the Lake Tahoe area. We will likely offer an additional hike this morning followed by some optional activities along the lakeshore before beginning our short return drive to Reno, NV.

The hikes were all well chosen and 4 out of 5 were simply amazing. 2 of the hikes "Angel's Landing" and "The Narrows" are iconic Utah hikes that are simply not to be missed. There was one person in our group who was rehabbing from an injury and she was semlessly accomodated without affecting the rest of the group.
The camping equipment was all new and worked welll. The sleeping pads were comfortable and the sleeping bags were really warm. Meals were good and utilized fresh food. Morning coffee was excellent.
I really can't imagine a more enjoyable week and can't really recommend MountainBased any more highly. The care they took in order to provide an exceptional week was greatly appreciated.

Our trip guides, Eric and Justin, were professional, caring and very knowledgeable on all aspects of the camping trip and the national parks that we visited. Traveling with them helped maximize our overall experience. We visited Zion national park and did not have to fight the infamous crowds and did the two iconic hikes of Angel's Landing and the Narrows. At Bryce Canyon we did the Fairyland Loop hike that was awesome. The guides were amazingly knowledgeable about the geology, the foliage and everything we encountered in the national park.
We camped for four nights, at excellent camp grounds, and all of the equipment was provided by the company, all in good shape. Our guides are excellent chefs and prepared hearty and healthy meals every day. That was definitely a wonderful (and unexpected) surprise.
Eric and Justin facilitated group activities and during the trip week it felt like that we were one big family.
Mountainbased is a family owned company that is very easy to deal with.
This is a highly recommended trip. You have to be an outdoor enthusiast and like camping and hiking to enjoy this trip.

Nick 1 and Nick 2 were knowledgeable and friendly guides and went to great lengths to make our trip most enjoyable and kept the whole group engaged with their efforts and planning. This is not something I would want to take the time... read more to plan out and organize and execute on my own with my family. They had everything taken care of. We tent camped each night. Their tents were easy to set up and they had self-inflating air mattresses that were comfortable. The guides cooked each meal and I would have to say that these meals were basically Gourmet, including gluten-free and vegetarian options. Or maybe they just tasted so good because we had hiked so far each day? I greatly appreciated the delicious coffee each morning and the fact that everything was planned out for us. The guides were very accommodating and made it seem like nothing was a problem, even if our group needed to stop to use the restroom too often or had questions that they just answered. They were always very gracious. Highly recommended.
