Depart early from our gateway hotel in the Phoenix area and begin the drive north to the stunning red rock landscapes of Sedona. This scenic route showcases Arizona’s diverse desert environments—starting in the low Sonoran Desert with wide open skies, rocky hills, and iconic saguaro cacti. As we gain elevation, the landscape shifts to high desert, with juniper and pinyon pines becoming more common as we near Sedona.
Upon arrival, we’ll head out on a shorter, scenic hike that introduces you to the area’s red rock beauty. This first hike is designed to ease everyone into the trip, create space to connect with fellow travelers, and allow your guides to share insights about the region. After the hike, we’ll check-in to our accommodations in the heart of Sedona and come together in the evening for a welcome group dinner.

Start the day with breakfast at the hotel before heading out for a rewarding hike along the Templeton Trail to the base of Cathedral Rock. This scenic route offers sweeping views of Oak Creek, red rock canyons, and the towering sandstone spires of one of Sedona’s most iconic formations. The trail features moderate elevation gain and a mix of open slickrock and shaded sections, making it a perfect blend of challenge and beauty.
After the hike, enjoy a free evening in Sedona to explore at your own pace. Stroll through the vibrant downtown, grab dinner at a local spot, browse art galleries, or take in the stunning views from Airport Mesa. It’s a great chance to unwind, reflect, and soak in the energy of Red Rock Country.

This morning, we depart Sedona and head north toward Grand Canyon National Park, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Along the way, we’ll explore some ancient ruins set against the stunning desert landscape. Entering the park through the scenic East Entrance, we’ll follow stretches of the Rim Trail, taking in breathtaking canyon vistas and watching for elk, condors, and other wildlife along the way.
By late afternoon, we’ll settle into our accommodations near the South Rim, just steps from the canyon’s edge. The evening is yours to relax, catch sunset over the vast expanse, or simply enjoy the quiet stillness of the high desert at one of the world’s most awe-inspiring landscapes.
Driving Time: 2 Hours

Today we hike below the rim on the South Kaibab Trail, one of the Grand Canyon’s most iconic routes. Our destination is Cedar Ridge, a stunning overlook perched about 1,000 feet down, offering sweeping, unobstructed views deep into the canyon’s colorful layers. If we have the energy and time, we’ll push on to Skeleton Point, where the vastness of the canyon truly unfolds before you, with views stretching across the Colorado River and surrounding cliffs.
After returning to the rim, the afternoon is yours to explore at your leisure. Visit the South Rim’s informative museums and geology exhibits to learn about the canyon’s formation and history, or simply find a quiet spot to relax and soak in the breathtaking scenery. Phenomenal trip Obviously, the natural beauty we experienced was beyond our imagination. However, Eric and Chad are such a wonderful team, they made the trip even more amazing. Both are so warm and engaging, they made everyone in the group (most strangers to each other) feel connected and part of a whole. Their knowledge and expertise made each day enjoyable, even the hours driving from park to park. Importantly, when the weather became an issue, their knowledge and working relationship allowed them to turn on a dime and alter plans so that we could have the best experience possible. Even when they felt a lunch location was not right for the group, the pivoted and quickly found the perfect alternative. We are huge fans and they are amazing ambassadors for Mountainbased. Due to our experience with them we would use the company again and refer others.
