At MountainBased, we feel that being well-fueled for your adventure is vital to having the best day ever! Mealtime is one of the details our guides care about deeply, because how can you have a good time if you aren’t well fed? We do our best to eat great even when we have early morning starts or a jam-packed day of exploring. Breakfast and lunch is often served up picnic style so you can choose your favorite bites and get back to enjoying the scenery. Camp dinners are cooked up family style for our groups to relax, eat, and decompress at the end of the day. Occasional restaurant dining gives you a chance to experience the local wares.
Meals are easily adapted to cater to dietary preferences, such as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. Our guides will keep your tummies happy to enjoy scenic hikes and good times.
Prior to each trip we sit down and plan meals for the week. We take into account our guest’s dietary preferences and plan for any restrictions such as the ability to restock along the way. Our adventures take us to remote areas and we want to maximize our time spent enjoying the parks, so these factors all weigh in on our meal planning decisions. We have found that buffet and picnic style lunches are a great option to please everyone’s tastes while not taking away from time to explore. It’s also easier to set up and pack away so your guides can focus on showing you around. We incorporate as many fresh and healthy ingredients as possible so you can feel great while exploring the National Parks.
On most mornings your guides will prepare plenty of options for you to choose from. Typical breakfast buffets include fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, and granola. Hot water is on hand if you like your oatmeal warm or want a cup of tea. Hot coffee is a must, and we partnered with our friends at Daily Rise Coffee to provide freshly brewed, delicious coffee in your cup.
At least once per trip, we like to take a little extra time to provide a hot breakfast. Scrambled eggs, hash browns, and bacon are on deck for a hearty start to the day.
Similar to breakfast, lunches are picnic style with a build-your-own sandwich station. Starting with a variety of bread and wraps, you can pick from multiple quality deli cold cuts, cheese, toppings and condiments to your liking. Fresh fruit and veggies, chips, granola bars, (and the occasional cookie) can be found at the picnic table as a side or to pack away for later.
This is where your guides get to show off their kitchen prowess. Camp cooking is a particular skill they take pride in, using every opportunity to change up and improve our standard meals. A typical week will see pasta, fajitas, and a hearty soup or chili to round things off. The guides get to work preparing dinner while you unwind after a long day of adventure. Fill up with a family style meal as the sun sets and the starry night sky falls over camp.
At least once on your trip we like to treat guests to a restaurant dinner paid for by MountainBased. Local eateries are chosen by guides based on their quality and the dietary needs of the group.
Most breakfasts are provided by the hotel and feature hot dishes. Occasionally, depending on the day’s schedule, guides may opt to supply a packed or buffet style breakfast instead. This will look a lot like the breakfasts provided on camping tours – granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, and pastries.

Enjoy dinner at local restaurants each night. Restaurants are chosen for being highly-rated in the area, and we take you to our favorite spots whenever possible. While some dinners are reserved and paid for by MountainBased, there are also nights that guests will be able to choose where they take themselves for dinner as a part of free time in town. Your guides are always willing to give recommendations based on your tastes.
