One unfamiliar with the Iowa Mountaineers may ask the obvious question: where are the mountains in Iowa? The answer is simple, there are no mountains in Iowa (or in any of Iowa’s adjoining states.) There are corn fields and cow pastures in abundance and residing in this great state are people with pioneering spirits eager to set out and explore. People might ask where the Iowa Mountaineers have gone for adventure. A better question would be, where have they not gone?
From 1940 to 1996, The Iowa Mountaineers explored 17 major alpine regions and climbed over 1,300 peaks around the world with over 76,000 participants.
